What if the very storms that tried to break you were the same ones that unlocked your purpose? That question has been the foundation of my life and is the heartbeat of Trauma Made Me Do It.
This is my first book in a powerful series, a collection of short stories that reveal how I turned trauma into a catalyst for resilience, faith, and success. My journey began with childhood trauma, the kind of pain that should have silenced me but instead sharpened my voice. Years later, I endured the chaos of Hurricane Katrina, a disaster that forced me to rebuild not only my surroundings but also my sense of self.
I have walked through nine pregnancy losses, a diagnosis that changed the course of my health, and multiple brain surgeries that tested my will to live. Even in the most fragile moments, trauma became a teacher. Out of the devastation of pregnancy loss, I founded A Light After Nine, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing hope to families navigating grief. In the midst of recovery from brain surgery, I birthed SpeakRx, a healthcare app designed to give patients the advocacy tools I once desperately needed but did not have.
Most recently, I was in a hospital bed recovering from brain surgery when I completed my Master of Science in Nursing. In that same season, I began my Doctor of Nursing Practice. What was meant to stop me became the very push that fueled me forward.
This book is not only about survival. It is about transformation. It is about how trauma made me innovate, how it made me create, and how it made me rise. Through childhood wounds, through hurricanes, through loss and surgery, I found ways to turn brokenness into something greater.
Trauma made me do it. And because of that, I am still here, writing, creating, and building a legacy of resilience that proves even the hardest storms can become the seeds of greatness.
