Maya-Gawonii Shabazz-Saleh is an author, critical essayist, and DEI consultant based in Oakland, California, whose work moves between liberatory frameworks, horror as a political analytic, and fiction across genres. Her essays appear in Echoes of the Earth: Black Voices Reclaiming Ecology and Justice (Cassava Republic Press, forthcoming) and Dead Pretty (Nottingham Horror Collective, forthcoming 2026), among numerous other publications in 2026, and her new-adult novel The Second Scoop was recently acquired for publication. She is the author of three books and the founder of Cowrie Crossings, a consulting practice rooted in trauma-informed and liberatory frameworks. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
