I was born to a single mother on a council estate in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England in 1962. I had a turbulent upbringing as my mum had a series of violent relationships. I left school at sixteen without sitting one exam. Though years later I would gain a post-graduate degree in journalism and go onto work in radio news.
I have written for the majority of my life and have had several short stories published. Most recently I had a story included in the London Prize Anthology 2024. I have also been listed in some major competitions; The Debut Dagger (2021), The Yeovil Literary Prize (2023), The Mslexia Novel Competition (2024) and in 2023 I was awarded the Hachette UK Bursary for Debut authors.
I now live in Lancashire with my husband and two grown sons.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my work, best wishes, Karen Milner
