Longtime lover of books, pens, pencils and paper, I am a 2023 Hurston-Wright Foundation Fiction Fellow and winner of an Outstanding Book Award during the 2025 National Association of Black Journalists Authors Showcase for my indie novel, "The Kitchen Isn't Where You Cook."
A graduate of Michigan State University, I spent the first half of my career as a newspaper journalist before making the switch to public relations. I live in the northwest Chicago suburbs with my husband and two teenaged children.
I am submitting my coming-of-age novel, "The Kitchen Isn't Where You Cook," because while the book is averaging 4.5 stars on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and GoodReads, I realize that the support of Storehouse Voices and Essence would expand the book's reach even more.
