connease warren is a writer, abolitionist and communications professional. Her professional experiences leading bold, innovative campaigns promoting racial justice and abolition, shaped a personal abolitionist praxis that informs how she thinks, writes, works, and lives as an unapologetic abolitionist.

connease is a cofounder of upEND Movement, an organization dedicated to abolishing the family policing system. She is the Director of Communications at The Abolitionist Law Center, a law firm inspired by the struggle of political and politicized prisoners, and organized for the purpose of abolishing class and race based mass incarceration in the United States. In July 2023, she launched Toward Liberation, an abolitionist learning group with longtime thought partner Alan Dettlaff, professor, author, and cofounder of upEND Movement.

Through her work, connease shifts narratives to highlight how systems impact individuals in ways obscured by cultural binaries centered in personal blame and shame. She believes a shift in how we view and assess the role of state violence as both the remedy and path to creating an abolitionist future. She champions an honest reckoning of the tremendous harm exacted upon marginalized communities and learning to name and identify how we harm others as key to not only our liberation but our survival.
