I am Dr Attiya Khan, a practising GP based in East London and an author of contemporary and psychological fiction. My debut novel, Ten Steps to Us, was a finalist in the National Indie Excellence Awards in 2023 and was previously longlisted for Undiscovered Voices in 2020. I was also selected to participate in David Higham Associates’ Open Day and chosen for a one-to-one mentoring opportunity for underrepresented writers with Greene & Heaton.
My latest manuscript, In Safe Hands, was shortlisted in the Unleash Press Fall 2025 competition under its working title, The Doctor’s Story. The novel marks my move into the psychological thriller genre and draws on my experience working as a GP within culturally diverse communities.
My work has benefited from professional editorial feedback, including developmental editing from Penny Joelson and editorial input from Emily Pedder. I am an active member of Critique Circle and my critique group, the Moore Street Masterminds, where my writing has been extensively workshopped.
Alongside my writing career, I continue to work in frontline medicine. My fiction is particularly interested in the intersection of culture, belief, mental health, identity, and the ethical complexities of modern life.
