About The Book

Cleared for Takeoff

In this inspiring memoir, trailblazing pilot Captain Nia Gilliam recounts the determination and sacrifice behind her lifelong dream of flying, as well as the tragedy and adversity that challenged her connection to the skies.

From witnessing the September 11 attacks from the co-pilot’s seat to navigating a life-changing diagnosis, Gilliam reflects on the Black aviation pioneers who paved the way for her and the faith that helped her return to the pilot’s seat. Cleared for Takeoff is a story of courage, purpose, and finding your way back to what you love.
